Benalu. I suppose that all of us already know about this word. Secara ilmiah, benalu adalah sekelompok tumbuhan parasit yang hidup dan tumbuh pada batang (dahan) pohon tumbuhan lain. Tapi, karena saya bukan seorang ahli botani atau mengambil jurusan yang menyangkut dengan ilmu tumbuh-tumbuhan, tentunya yang saya maksud dengan benalu di sini bukanlah benalu dalam pengertian di atas, melainkan benalu dalam arti kiasan. Dalam arti kiasannya, benalu sering dikaitkan dengan orang yang senang menumpang kepentingannya kepada usaha orang lain tanpa mau berusaha sendiri. Semacam parasit. Tentunya hal ini berlaku dalam konotasi negatif di mana bukan simbiosis mutualisme yang dihasilkan karena pada kenyataannya benalu justru merugikan orang lain. Hidup di lingkungan yang berbeda-beda satu sama lain, tentunya kita tidak dapat memungkiri bahwa di sekeliling kita banyak terdapat keberagaman karakter yang dimiliki oleh orang-orang.
